If you were Deaf or married to a Deaf person what would you consider before planning to have a child?
Would you take a test to determine the odds of havng a deaf child? Who would you consult?
As teachers we have to consider the parents feelings and stress of having a child who is disabled. Teachers should know about the family and thier homelife.
This week I want to discuss this with my classmates.
You may want to see what resources are available at the Hearing Speech and Deaf Ctr on Burnett Ave in Cincinnati. You might also want to check out Council for Exceptional Children.
ReplyDeleteThank you , This will give me alot of great information.
ReplyDeleteI really don't know what I would do. I would want to have children, but the challenges I would have to face would make me nervous. I would want to find more information before having a child.
ReplyDeleteGloria, I think that becoming a parent makes people nervous because it is a life changing event. I think that the idea of having a child who is deaf may cause more stress for the parent.
ReplyDeleteI think there are some parents who would want to know the risk and some who wouldn't. Its something that only a parent could decide.
